In this article, we provide a comprehensive review and analysis of the outcomes of homeschooling in America. We ground the work in an examination of the importance of homeschooling in society in general and education in particular. We provide an analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the existing research base on homeschooling. With an eye on methodological weaknesses in the homeschool research, we compile data on what is known about the outcomes of this social movement and educational reform. We document the impact of homeschooling on the social fabric of the nation (e.g., families) and the institution of schooling (e.g., student learning outcomes)
