Resumo
This introduction to the special issue "Ethnographies of Historicity" explores the intersection of history and anthropology, examining how different cultures conceptualize, experience, and narrate their pasts. The authors argue against a simple dichotomy between "historical" and "non-historical" societies, proposing instead a focus on the diverse ways in which historicity is embedded in social practices, rituals, and forms of representation. The essays in the issue demonstrate how ethnographic research can illuminate the complex relationship between past, present, and future in various cultural contexts, challenging conventional understandings of historical consciousness and offering new perspectives on the production of historical knowledge.
