Despite a relatively large representation of women in the history of anthropology, they tend to be less canonized than their male colleagues. Some European woman anthropologists working in the Middle East and North Africa in the beginning of the twentieth century deserve a better fate than to be completely erased from the collective anthropological memory. In this article a rehabilitation is suggested for the Finnish anthropologist Hilma Granqvist, but not without placing her in the context of other equally interesting women anthropologists working in the Arab world between 1900 and 1950
