This paper examines the relationship between humans and products. It shows how products influence users' knowledge through their use and how design affects this influence. It summarizes the phenomenon of knowledge transformation into a theoretical model and introduces the concepts of “learning functions” and “learning experience.” On this basis, terminologies for the corresponding relationships are presented. The second part of the paper presents design principles that facilitate the creation of effective learning experiences. Based on these principles the “Learning Experience Design Method” (LXD-Method) was developed. The method provides designers with tools to effectively design and integrate learning experiences into the design process
