Resumo

The Plantationocene, a term increasingly used to analyze the enduring impacts of plantation systems, has generated debate about its conceptual scope and applicability. This forum brings together six interventions that reflect on the Plantationocene’s strengths and limitations as an analytical concept. The interventions explore the Plantationocene’s relationship to other analytical frameworks, including extractivism, racial capitalism, and the Anthropocene; its potential to obscure particular historical and geographical contexts; and its capacity to inform contemporary struggles for agrarian and environmental justice. The forum concludes with a response from the scholars who introduced the Plantationocene concept, highlighting the importance of ongoing dialogue and reflection to refine and strengthen its analytical power.
