This article argues that the Lowell Offering (1840–1845) should be read as a publication that actively cultivated a transatlantic readership by publishing increasingly English-focused content. It explores how, under Harriet Farley and Harriot Curtis’s direction, the magazine transformed from a novelty publication that was famous abroad into one that saw itself as a participant in transatlantic conversations. In particular, this article examines Farley’s monthly editorials and their increasing focus on international readers. When we reframe the Offering as a publication that catered to a transatlantic perspective, the magazine’s political or reform aims come to the fore in a new way
