The increasing trend in outdoor recreation participation has put safety concerns in the spotlight, with efforts to understand motivations for activities associated with reckless behavior and to mitigate potential injuries. Despite frequent mentions of ‘reckless behavior' in both news and academic contexts, a clear definition remains elusive. This study aims to clarify the concept of recklessness in the context of snowsliding through a comprehensive survey of outdoor recreationists. Utilizing thematic coding and word count analysis, this research identifies key themes related to the act of snow recreation, the characteristics of reckless individuals, and the decisions that contribute to reckless behavior. Findings reveal that recklessness is often tied to the specifics of the day (conditions, crowding) and the resort (terrain, rules), as well as the individual’s skill level and mental state. The results of the study suggest a detailed explanation of ‘reckless snowsliding behavior' to aid in understanding and managing risks while contributing valuable insights for both academics and industry practitioners
