Given the decline of U.S. government social services over the past 50 years, it is essential to assess whether nonprofits are meeting the needs of low-income families. This qualitative study ( N = 48) explored the role of nonprofits providing material goods in the lives of parents with limited financial resources. Semi-structured interviews were conducted in Los Angeles County, California, between November 2023 and April 2024. Participants were ethnoracially diverse, primarily female, and had at least one child younger than 7. Results reveal that many participants did not use nonprofit resources and reported being unaware of what nonprofits are or how to find them. These findings raise concerns about the reach of nonprofits, particularly as the safety net faces funding reductions under the current political administration
