A cinematic project was carried out in Oku, in the savannah in the Cameroons, from December 1977 to February 1978. The aim was to systematically survey the main cultural spheres representative of this kingdom. This task was made possible through the collaboration of the king and the Kwifon, a secret society which collectively ruled the kingdom during the pre‐European era. We were able to collect a wealth of information on the palace, the areas reserved for traditional and cultic practices, as well as on the domain of the ruling families and of secret societies. The above‐mentioned themes are examined in detail in the film and provide essential data for African Studies
