A Reply to Corpt and Rodin

This is a reply to discussions by Elizabeth Corpt and Gary Rodin. Building on both commentators, we may say that the middlespace between activity and passivity is an important area for psychoanalytic practice in general. As analysts, we exercise medio-passive agency prior to all intervention in waiting for resonance with the unconscious. The author outlines a concept of resonance in the analytic relationship by appropriating elements from Hartmut Rosa’s theory of world-relations. Exploring this perspective in response to some of Corpt’s and Rodin’s comments, the author then sketches potential routes for a further conceptual engagement with medio-passivity in psychoanalysis
