This study investigates how AI affinity influences EFL learners’ willingness to communicate through the mediating roles of perceptual interactivity and language self-efficacy in the context of Generative AI. A structural model was constructed with four components: AI affinity, perceptual interactivity, language self-efficacy, and willingness to communicate. It was hypothesized that learners’ affinity for AI indirectly shapes their communicative willingness via these mediators. Data were collected through a questionnaire survey of EFL learners who practiced English using Generative AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT) and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Results reveal that AI affinity positively predicts learners’ perception of interactivity, which in turn enhances language self-efficacy and ultimately increases willingness to communicate. These findings demonstrate that Generative AI reshapes learners’ cognitive and psychological processes in language learning. The study underscores the importance of designing interactive and emotionally engaging AI tools to build language confidence and offers theoretical and practical insights for AI-based learning platforms
