A reappraisal of the textual tradition of Quevedo’s Memorial against the taxation policies of Olivares, which contributed to the writer’s imprisonment at San Marcos in León (1639). An analysis of the variants in 44 manuscripts and two early printed editions yields a complex picture of the tradition of a text that circulated initially in a clandestine, anonymous fashion
