This paper studies the characteristics of silvas in Anacreón castellano (1609) by Quevedo and the possible reasons for the use of this metric form, in relation to its features as a translator of classical texts. As a significant example, his paraphrase of the two anacreontics dedicated to the rose is analysed. In both silvas, Quevedo usually translates a Greek word into two Spanish words and introduces complete verses or new expressions at the end of the verse, which, sometimes, rhyme with words translated from Greek. These procedures confirm Quevedo’s tendency to amplify descriptions of nature and praise for the rose, which offered renewed literary motifs
