This article explores the legacy of Saint Francis of Assisi and his influence on medieval Europe's subjective conception of law. It discusses the shift from a more objective and hierarchical view of law towards one centred on the individual, highlighting how Franciscan thought, particularly that of Francis of Assisi, contributed to the development of this idea. Although Francis did not directly theorize about law, his life and teachings promoted a vision focused on the person, fraternity, and humility, which played a role in the emergence of subjective rights in medieval and later legal thought. In this context, the concepts of minority, poverty, and brotherhood are key in redefining law, particularly in the relationship between the individual and the community
