The Rincón Chico 15 archaeological site is located in the Yocavil valley (Catamarca province, northwestern Argentina), a metallurgical workshop that was active from pre-Inca times to Spanish-indigenous contact and has important characteristics for the Southern Andes. The work carried out at the site has made it possible to study many aspects of metallurgical production in the region, such as the supply of resources, the technological and stylistic characterization of objects, the production and use of ceramics, and subsistence. However, the role played by lithic artifacts in the various stages of production of copper and bronze metal goods, which were of great importance in the pre-Columbian world, is completely unknown in local archaeology. This work initially addresses this issue by articulating functional studies of traces and the experimental approach. An approach of this type has never been carried out in local archaeology and has an important informative potential of a new nature for the Southern Andes
