Economists and researchers are constantly investigating these issues in order to understand how countries are going through economic development processes. One of them is the middle income trap phenomenon. The middle income trap is defined as the middle income countries in terms of national income per capita being stuck at their own levels and not being able to move into the group of high income countries. For this, it is wanted to investigate whether the Balkan countries are in the middle income trap. For this purpose, the stationarity test of the per capita income series was carried out with the structural break panel unit root test. According to the analysis results for the annual data covering the period 2000-2019, it is seen that the Balkan countries are in the middle income trap. That is, it shows a balancing in per capita income and a decrease or stagnation in the competitiveness of their economies. For this, policy makers; They may need to be more sensitive to issues such as a faster transformation from agriculture to industry, higher export shares, lower inflation, and a reduction in inequality and dependency rates
