The concepts of social stratification have been present and debated since the emergence of the notion of property. In some traditional societies, rigid stratification systems were implemented.Following the rise of modern societies, while such rigid systems persisted in some societies, the emergence of the concept of class introduced a new dimension to stratification. The development of science and the emergence of modern sociology significantly altered the trajectory of academic studies on social stratification. After the Industrial Revolution, the increased demand for labor, the rapid transformation of societal dynamics, and the emergence of the working class gave rise to a different stratification system. One of the crucial factors fueling social stratification is racism.Since the inception of societies, racism has served as a tool to classify, marginalize, and exclude individuals. This study first explains the stratification systems that have existed throughout history and then evaluates the causes and consequences of racism. Finally, it analyzes the film The Help using critical discourse analysis to trace the stratification and racism policies in the United States during the 1960s.As is well known, movies have the ability to convey events from specific periods in a striking way, leveraging cinema's power of dramatization. In this context, the theoretical framework of this research is built on critical race theory. The critical discourse analysis conducted within the study reveals that the racism prevalent at the time is critically addressed within the film within the context of fundamental rights and freedoms, and this generally informs the film's narrative."The Help" demonstrates that racism and stratification were intensely implemented in the United States during the 1960s, particularly against black people
