In the churches of Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages, natural lighting is a scholarly creation, which takes into account the materials used, from stone to gold, the plans and elevations, the organization of space, cultual and cultural context. The light that penetrates the building participates in the dramatization of liturgical life, creating emotions through mood lighting, sometimes noted in descriptions of visitors. Many texts of the classical literature of Antiquity describe all these phenomena, reflected also during the Middle Ages
