This text is written from the experience of situations where performance work intersects with a strong urge to orient oneself with regard to dominant struggles on the political left. In a varied series of working questions and notions, it ventriloquizes conversations I have had with friends, art students, young performance artists and cultural workers around the problem of how one politically belongs with others during a protracted chain of crises, especially as 'our' positions, and the afflictions 'we' bear from these crises – where 'we' is multiple, open-ended and hard to avow – are asymmetrical
