This research explores how cultural tourists with orientation, motive and desire for well-being direct their behaviour. Specifically, it examines the interacting and moderating impacts of motivation and perceived well-being on orientation and behavioural intention towards cultural tourism from the perspectives of hedonism and calculated hedonism. Consequently, it identified distinct hedonic (Enduring Upbeats and Enduring Despondents) and calculated hedonic (Enduring Upbeats and Hopeful Despondents) well-being cohorts. Further, the majority of hypothesised relationships was supported, showing significant differences between the hedonic and calculated hedonic cohorts. Theoretically, the research is arguably the first to examine how motivation moderates the orientation-behavioural intention relationship; derive a segmentation typology of cultural tourist well-being; and introduce a decision-making framework of cultural tourists from the perspectives of hedonism and calculated hedonism. Managerially, the research underlines the need to design goal-oriented cultural experiences; develop differentiated service strategies; and implement personalised marketing initiatives that leverage well-being goals
