Over the past decade, the smart tourism field has expanded rapidly due to evolving traveller behaviour and technological advancements. This growth has resulted in a substantial and diverse body of scholarly literature covering topics such as digital transformation, sustainable tourism, AI, and IoT. However, the vastness and complexity of this literature have make it challenging to synthesise existing research, identify patterns, and determine future directions. To address this challenge, the study employs the umbrella review method, providing a systematic approach to compiling and analysing reviews and meta-analyses in smart tourism research. Using a structured PICOS research strategy – population (P), intervention (I), comparison (C), outcome (O), and study (S) – the authors identified key reviews across various smart tourism contexts. The paper not only maps the extensive landscape of smart tourism through a high-level synthesis but also creates thematic clusters, offering a comprehensive framework for future research and development in the field
