This study explores the psychological constructs of Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) and Joy of Missing Out (JoMO) within the hospitality, leisure, sport, and tourism (HLST) sectors. Using 13 relevant articles from the Web of Science database, we analyse how social media’s constant stream of curated experiences amplifies FoMO, driving consumers to engage in travel, leisure, and sporting activities to avoid perceived social exclusion. In contrast, JoMO, characterised by mindful disconnection and intentional leisure, remains underexplored but holds significant potential for enhancing psychological well-being. The study underscores the need to integrate these concepts more systematically across these sectors. The study highlights the importance of incorporating these constructs into HLST research and practice. By leveraging FoMO and JoMO, industry stakeholders can optimise destination marketing, event promotion, and digital engagement strategies while fostering opportunities for wellness tourism, slow travel, and mindful leisure experiences
