Amidst the smartening of work, organisations have found themselves vulnerable to the adverse effects of remotization. Engaging people in authentic work experiences that corroborate organisational cohesion and identification is an effective way to fill the gaps generated by remote work. Experiential business tourism addresses this emerging organisational need, situating travel in remarkable places. Mainstream tourism destinations plagued with overtourism fall short in hosting meaningful experiences that fit the evolving needs of organisations. Within this scenario, peripheral tourism destinations struggling with undertourism find an opportunity to reconfigure their offering, focusing on a latent, yet valuable niche of business tourism. We drew on the Smartway case, a platform matching the organisational needs for experiential business tourism and the hospitality capability of peripheral tourism destinations, to frame an Authentic, Immersive and Meaningful (AIM) business tourism model, which represents a way to boost the development of areas suffering from undertourism
