Halal tourism has emerged as a rapidly growing area of research due to the increasing global demand for Muslim-friendly travel services and destinations. Despite the expanding body of literature, a comprehensive understanding of the research trends, influential studies, and thematic developments in halal tourism remains limited. Therefore, this study aims to systematically review the halal tourism literature using bibliometric and topic modelling approaches to identify key trends, themes, and research insights in the field. Following the PRISMA methodology, 284 empirical studies published between 2004 and 2023 were collected from the Scopus and Web of Science databases. Bibliometric analysis was conducted to evaluate publication trends, influential contributions, and research development patterns. In addition, Latent Dirichlet Allocation was applied as a topic modelling technique to identify the dominant themes within the literature. The findings reveal a significant growth in halal tourism research over the past two decades, indicating increasing scholarly interest in the field. The topic modelling analysis identified four major thematic areas that characterise the existing literature. This review provides a comprehensive foundation for future research and offers practical implications for tourism practitioners and policymakers in developing and promoting halal tourism initiatives
