Le référendum constitutionnel italien a marqué un tournant pour le système politique italien. Contrairement au référendum du Brexit, pour lequel une abondante littérature a analysé les différents aspects du comportement électoral, le référendum constitutionnel de 2016 a jusqu’à présent reçu beaucoup moins d’attention. Dans cet article, j’examine dans quelle mesure ce référendum peut être considéré comme une élection de second ordre ou, au contraire, si les convictions politiques ont affecté le choix des électeurs. Tandis que l’hypothèse de l’identification au parti a un faible pouvoir explicatif dans ce cas particulier, la personnalisation peut être considérée une procuration du choix de l’électeur pour punir ou récompenser le gouvernement en place
