Writing History in a Time of CovidThe world is undergoing an accelerating phase of change. The effects of climate change have become more significant, with many people experiencing them on a personal level. The increasing volatility of the global economy with the major downturn during the Covid Pandemic in 2020 as harbinger of significant breakdown that had its roots in the inflationary policies enacted by the American Federal Reserve Bank since 2008 and the rise of reactionary right-wing politicians since the mid 2010s -have all shaped a picture more reminiscent of the tumultuous times of the early 20th century world.Covid is a wake-up call from the reverie of the post-1990s liberal lull and Fukuyama's end of history. While the 2000s were continued with American imperialism within the context of the War on Terror, the major geological shifts in earth's geopolitics were misdiagnosed by the imperial centers. The rise of China as an economic and political hegemon, the conflicts that resulted from the ideologically inspired efforts of America to make possible the creation of an 'American twenty-first century' and the increasing stagnation in American political and societal processes would all culminate in the spectacular failure of the superpower in containing the disease and its associated effects -the riots following on George Floyd's murder and the economic downturn of the 2020s.Covid allowed us to live in a post-American world due to the limitation of the so-called 'global order' that America crafted and commandeered in the post-War World; as such it also allow us to think about how to understand history that is beyond Fukuyama's celebration of the eternal victory of liberalism. It also brings forth the fragility of the global order that we once thought of as stable, and some even think of as, eternal.Covid allowed the expression of global crisis to reach a personal and democratic level, in a way that had never before happened in history.Almost everyone were forced to isolate themselves, control of the local, national and international spaces reached experiential heights that were unique.Revolt against the Covid control took on ideological undertones and were supported by nationalists as well as leftists who were both suspicious of the 'neoliberal global order.'Within these changes, questions of how to do history post-Covid becomes important. It is imperative that historians, including those in Indonesia, weigh the consequences of
