This study analyzes the dispute for the presidency of the Legislative Assembly of Rio Grande do Sul (ALRS) after the 1998 elections for governor, reflecting a “third round” between Olívio Dutra (PT) and Antônio Britto (PMDB). The research uses the coverage of the newspaper Zero Hora, especially the Página 10 column, and adopts public history as its theoretical-methodological approach. The aim is to investigate the strategies, alliances and impacts of this election, offering contributions to the understanding of regional political dynamics and their impact on Brazilian politics
