We analyzed socioeconomic and socio-environmental aspects of fishermen from Vila de Pimental, Tapajós River, who fish for plecos, catfish (Family Loricariidae). Eight fishermen were interviewed and data on commercialization and fishing activity were tabulated and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Fishermen from Vila de Pimental have traditional knowledge associated with capturing ornamental fish, carry out post-collection maintenance and sell most batches of fish to retailers in the city of Santarém (PA). 16 species of acaris were reported and are commercialized. Vila de Pimental represents an origin in the commercial chain of ornamental fish from the Tapajós basin, whose main commercial destination is the international market. The main challenges identified for strengthening this bio business in the Tapajós region are: the social valorization of fishermen, improvements in environmental management and documentary processes related to the fishing sector
