This study analyzes the barriers present in sustainable public procurement (SPP) by reviewing scientific publications indexed in the Web of Science database (2013-2022). The methodology employed combines bibliometric techniques and content analysis. The results indicate that most of the research is descriptive and theoretical and focuses on the concept of the SPP, which may limit its practical application. There has also been a predominance of studies on the planning and execution phases of contracts, neglecting the management and supervision of contracts. The study recommends the development of applied research to support public policies and management strategies that overcome the identified barriers, promoting the effective implementation of sustainability in public procurement. By systematizing scientific knowledge on the subject, this research aims to foster the practical application of SPPs, encouraging the participation of different actors and government sectors in the search for socioenvironmental benefits
