The number of French-language publications about the Fukushima triple disaster on 11 March 2011 reflects the dominant role of nuclear power in the French energy debate. This article focuses on the environmental injustices described in Thomas B. Reverdy’s novel Les évaporés [ The Evaporated ], a key case study in the French corpus on ecological disasters, which takes a critical look at its social consequences. It demonstrates how the novel’s detective storyline highlights entanglements of environmental, social, economic, and political issues, as well as the vicious circle of environmental injustices. These issues are generated by mechanisms akin to necropolitics, as conceived by philosopher Achille Mbembe, a ‘necropolitics’ that operates through what Mbembe describes as war machines
