This journal does not normally publish articles on contemporary politics. Its focus is the history, literature and culture of central Europe. Nevertheless, we believe that the voices of our colleagues in the Ukraine, whose lives have been transformed by this terrible war, have a right to be heard. We are, therefore, determined to bring to the widest possible audience their writings, which are rooted in the very history, literature and culture that is the focus of this journal
