The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is a country located in central-western Africa, and its soil, notably in the region bordering the Great Lakes, contains immense deposits of coltan, a mineral used to manufacture components for smartphones, laptops, computers, satellites, and batteries for the aforementioned technological devices. In this part of the country, more precisely in the east, there is a war involving different groups, some of which are supported by neighbouring governments, especially Rwanda, Uganda and Burundi. This article discusses, based on an analysis of the series The Widow, the ways and means by which cinema constitutes a medium for representing and translating events and phenomena in the field of history. Based on a specific bibliographic review, as well as an analysis of the aforementioned series, we sought to understand the contours of contemporary Congolese society and how these are the result of the historical process experienced in the country and region
