The development of child and adolescent psychiatry in Austria carries the burden of its historical inheritance of the Nazi period. The development after 1945 shows contradictory aspects as a reflection of the social and political situation. A compromise (additive specialisation â Kinderneuropsychiatrieâ ) between child psychiatry (in the narrow sense), oriented towards social-psychiatric and psychotherapeutic approaches and the â quantitatively dominant â â heilpädagogisches Netzwerkâ following conservative approaches, was established in 1975
