This article examines how the university issue was addressed in Paraguay in 1964 under Alfredo Stroessner’s authoritarian regime, through three political weeklies: La Libertad, Comunidad and El Pueblo. It explores ideological divergences regarding the causes and solutions to the crisis of the National University of Asunción, as well as differing views on the university’s current state. Despite narrative differences, the media converge in denouncing material precariousness, politicization of faculty, and loss of student autonomy. Additionally, shared proposals emerge that revalue the university graduate’s social role as a transformative agent. The university is portrayed as in-printed: captured by the state apparatus, yet printed in political discourse as a symbol of resistance and ideological struggle
