This study presents data from a doctoral research project focused on the competencies developed by a teacher-researcher while transforming her English teaching approach in a Mathematics Teacher Education course at a professional and technological education institution. Drawing on the concepts outlined by Almeida Filho (1993, 1997) and Anthony (1963), as well as the Global Operation of Language Teaching (OGEL) model proposed by Almeida Filho (1993; 2013; 2015; 2018; 2023)—particularly concerning the competency system—this work emphasizes the significance of reflective practice and the interplay between theory and practice in teacher education and professional development. Through a qualitative analysis of diaries, class transcripts, and meetings with her supervisor, the study identified implicit, theoretical, and linguistic-communicative competencies. This analysis underscores the complexity and non-linear nature of the teacher-researcher's process of changing her approach. The findings suggest that critical reflection, in conjunction with theoretical knowledge, is essential for redefining one’s teaching practice
