This article explores issues of identity as reflected in Kapka Kassabova’s first novel, Reconnaissance. After considering whether Reconnaissance should be catalogued as an example of “migrant writing”, I focus on how the author explores the processes of travel and migration through a character who performs several roles simultaneously in her struggle to negotiate her position within New Zealand society
