The Selfdefinition of Reconstructionist Religions and the Terminological Questions around them In the last decades, in the field of religious studies, and especially in the field of studies concerning new religious movements, there has been an increasing number of papers dealing with religious or spiritual formations that aim at reviving archaic religious cults. The academic literature, based on several criteria and studies, has given the term 'neo-paganism' or 'contemporary paganism' to these formations, and has subsequently further differentiated the term according to local or thematic approaches. In recent years, the term 'new' or 'pagan' seems increasingly to have been replaced by the term 'reconstructed polytheistic cults' or 'reconstructionist religions. ' This paper traces this terminological process and presents a typology of the best-known movements in the history of religion, based on a phenomenological approach to religion
