Title: “The treatment of paremies in the Italian translation of Arturo PĂŠrez-Reverte's Los perros duros no bailan (Hard dogs don't dance)”. Abstract: This paper deals with the treatment of paremias in the translation of Arturo PĂŠrez-Reverte's Los perros duros no bailan (2018). Taking as a point of reference our study of the paremias contained in this work, currently in press, we intend to analyse the Italian translation of the novel, by Bruno Arpaia (2019). Our main aim is to carry out a reflection on the paremiological correspondences in Italian based on the extrinsic analysis of the paremias, with particular attention to the functions that some of the sententious statements play in the text (namely the ludic, humorous and stylistic or communicative functions) and to the presence of de-automatised paremias, This is one of the essential features of this novel and makes the paremias "true literary resources for the configuration of the characters and their environment, for defining their speech, for marking the differences between castes and races, fundamental elements of a novel that would perhaps lose its originality without such a strong paremic component". Keywords: Paremiology. Proverb. Literature. Translation. Spanish. Italian. Arturo PĂŠrez-Reverte
