This paper aims to discuss emancipatory possibilities for human development, particularly in music education. To this end, it recovers a historical dimension of art and music that allows understanding them in relation to the process of cultural development; it problematizes, through the concept of the cultural industry, the (de)formation promoted by the commodity form. Finally, the formative discussion indicates that a living relationship with the goods of culture requires an education that is both cognitive and sensitive, which does not neglect the issues of a society founded on relations of domination
