The article is devoted to the archeological study of the underground mosque "Hilvet", which was founded in the XII century and continued to operate until the first half of the XX century, has a special place in the formation of Sufism in the Islamic world and is one of the largest centers.Differences in the results of research related to determining the history and activities of the underground mosque "Hilvet", the years of construction, several changes in the construction, improvement made it difficult to determine the exact period. Determining the history and date of construction of underground mosques allows us to accurately summarize the typological function of these structures. The analysis of historical data on the underground mosque "Hilvet" was carried out using the methods of historical-comparative and historical-typological, inductive analysis. Priority was given to methods of comparison and analysis of data related to the period of activity and construction of the underground mosque "Hilvet", aimed at revealing the content of scientifically formulated facts.Although there are many legends and stories about the underground mosque "Hilvet", there is very little scientific literature and records of world travelers, historical information, only the results of archeological research, which began in 1972-1973, allowed to determine the date of construction of the ancient artifact and its original appearance. The accumulated results of archeological excavations are analyzed and submitted for scientific circulation
