Qian Zhongshus Erzähltechniken und Freuds psychoanalytische Theorie

The writer and scholar Qian Zhongshu became famous in the West primarily for his novel Wei cheng (Fortress besieged, 1946/47), and in China for his writings on aesthetics and comparative literature. Fortress besieged is a magnificent work of satire aimed at the weakness of mankind and in particular at a group of Chinese who blindly worship and superficially adopt Western ideas and styles. However, his innovative application of Freud's theory was largely neglected by academics in China and abroad. In order to uncover mankind's complexity and the hypocrisy common in modern society, Qian Zhongshu masterfully borrows from, absorbs and integrates Freud's psychoanalytic concepts and topics such as dreams, the unconscious and the structure of id, ego and superego in his novel
