Finding Central American women writers who were also travelers — particularly Guatemalan ones— is an uncommon occurrence, especially when the search extends to the late Nineteenth and early Twentieth centuries, due to the limited visibility of Latin American female authors within the literary canon. For this reason, this work proposes a historiographical study that recovers and contextualizes the life and work of Guatemalan poet María Cruz (1876-1915) —a necessary contribution to Central American literature— within the framework of her travels through the West and East, highlighting biographical data, visual material, and unpublished manuscripts and literary writings produced along her travels. The poems, chronicles, and letters composed by Cruz project a form of writing shaped by geographic movement, which not only records her multiple travel itineraries but also reflects the internal transformation of aforementioned intellectual, culminating in a spiritual initiation grounded in theosophical thought
