Australia and New Zealand face an engineering skills shortage, exacerbated by engineers leaving the profession. This study used Social Cognitive Career Theory and linear regression modeling to provide evidence on gendered similarities and differences of the contextual workplace factors that affect engineers’ career outlook. Meaningful work, psychological safety, work–life balance, and identity predicted positive outcomes. Unexpectedly, mistreatment was non-significant for women, flexibility mattered for men, and job security predicted women’s satisfaction only.
