Conducted by a multidisciplinary team, this study analyses the progressive reduction in hearing time within judicial proceedings and the impact of this curtailment on the organisation of the justice system and the protection of fundamental rights. Various qualitative and quantitative research methods were employed to assess litigants’ perceptions and the positions adopted by legal professionals (judges, court clerks and lawyers) confronted with these developments. The findings show that, although hearings are not always procedurally indispensable, they remain a powerful marker of the decision-making process and a central factor in the acceptability of judicial decisions
