In this article, we wish to discuss the preparation process of migrants who wish to write the Brazilian Exam to attest the High School Competences (ENCCEJA) drawing from the practical experience in the Pro-immigrants’ Portuguese Language and Writing project. The Pro-Immigrants is a free preparation course for migrants who wish to take the Brazilian High School Exam (Enem) aiming mainly at accessing the Brazilian universities. Nowadays the program is based at the Faculty of Literature and Linguistics at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (Fale-UFMG). Though the course accepts migrants in general, since its beginning, the Pro-Immigrants has received mostly migrants from crisis regions. From previous experiences, we could sense a growing need for our students to revalidate certificates or to obtain their high school certificates validated in Brazil. To write ENCCEJA was the faster and most convenient way found by the program coordinators at the time. Therefore, besides the Enem preparation sessions, since 2022 the course has been providing a specific preparation for the ENCCEJA exam (Melo, 2023). In this work we seek to analyze what are the main challenges and specificities of the preparation of crisis migrants to the ENCCEJA exam analyzing the experience of the Portuguese Language and Writing teacher who has been teaching in the project since 2020. She has also participated in the research for the implementation of the ENCCEJA preparation course in Pro-Immigrants project. The experience narrative is based on previous works that also took place in the same context such as Oliveira (2019a), Ferreira et. al. (2023) and Melo (2023). This study is also based on the Portuguese as a Welcome Language (PLAc) writings (Grosso, 2021; Lopez; Diniz, 2018) since we discuss the teaching of Portuguese Language and Writing to migrant students. Previous results have shown that one of the main difficulties found by students lies in understanding how the exam works, as well as the reading of the documents related to ENCCEJA and its questions
