The relevance of the research is determined by the challenges facing diff erent societies today, such as the need to preserve their cultural identity and traditional values in an era of globalization and rapid social change. The purpose of the study is to identify the features of the relationship between social mentality and national identity as the basis of cultural policy in modern China in the context of the interaction of traditional cultural values, public policy and globalization processes. The scientifi c novelty of the study is to identify the dialectical relationship between traditional mentality and modern challenges, as well as to identify mechanisms for adapting Chinese culture to global trends without losing its identity. The article shows that the traditional Chinese mental ity, rooted in Confucian and Taoist values, remains the foundation of national identity, but faces the challenges of globalization, generating confl icts between traditional norms and modern individualistic aspirations of young people for self-realization and rapid success. Using the concepts of “cultural confi dence”, “Chinese dream”, and “Xiaoshun”, the state transforms traditional values into tools for strengthening national identity, combining pride in heritage with ambitions for modernization and social well-being. The research is based on the concept of un derstanding mentality as a system of collective representations by E. Durkheim; the theory of structure, which is not a passive legacy, but an active complex of dispositions (habitus) structuring social practice, which has the property of stability in time by P. Bourdieu; the concept of fi nding ways to increase effi ciency and promote the construction of a state policy adequate to the requirements of modernity, K. K. Merkulov; as well as the research of Chinese scientist Luo Jiayu on the most signifi cant components of national identity in China, refl ecting the characteristics of the Chinese people. The prospects for further research are related to the study of the dialec tical interaction of traditional values, public policy instruments and global trends as a mechanism for adaptive transformation of national identity
