The purpose of the article is to present the options for explicating the cognitive model “generic force” in the 18th – 21st centuries. The objectives of the article are as follows: to describe the process of forming the cognitive model under study in Russian linguoculture; to identify the genre specifi cs of forming this cognitive model in Russian discourse in the 18th – 21st centuries. The relevance of the study is in the generalization of the meanings of stable expressions and scientifi c terms that implement this cognitive model. The research methods used in the article include conceptual, interpretative, descriptive, and analytical. The main ways of the studied cognitive model explication are determined: the same-name combination of generic power; combinations: power of the genus; power of a special (diff erent) such/other (another) genus; the genus of power. The nominative density of the studied cognitive model is confi rmed by the variety of its objectifying nominal and attributive constructions. The results of the study show that the word power in the 18th – 19th centuries is understood in several meanings: physical abilities (strength, energy), spiritual power (courage, audacity), mental qualities (gifts, talents, intelligence). The initial understanding of the family power is concentrated in the values of physical strength, audacity, courage and bravery – those qualities that bring people to the fore in the division of material resources (share or inheritance). The realization came that the real wealth of the family, i. e. its strength, was not in money and material resources in the 18th and 19th centuries. Its strength lies in the gifts passed down to the descendants. Other periods of the cognitive model’s functioning (the 11th–17th centuries and the modern 20th–21st centuries), including in other languages, off er prospects for further research
