In de bijdrage van dr. Kim Schoofs wordt aan de hand van een zorgvuldig geselecteerd bronnencorpus nagegaan hoe het gebruik van de code Duits in getuigenissen over de Tweede Wereldoorlog complexe sociale groepen ‘tot stand kan brengen’. Meer specifiek geeft de analyse aan hoe vertellers, door het afwisselend gebruik van de moedertaal en het Duits, moeilijk af te bakenen, multidimensionale identiteitsconstructies over maatschappelijke groepen en hun vermeende kenmerken kunnen creëren
