This research examines the discourse of female inmates regarding their attitudes and beliefs about motherhood. Research was done at a southern prison for women. Data were obtained from interviews with inmates, prison administrators, as well as informed others. As expected, inmates expressed great concern about their children. Organizational constraints for interpreting this prisoner discourse were examined
