The author of the article addresses the topic of bodily experience in Ignacy Karpowicz’s prose, interpreting in this context his most popular and best-received novel, Sońka. Based on an analysis of the bodily experiences of the characters and the body-subject relationship, the author discusses the influence of the body on identity processes, highlighting issues such as memory, sexuality and corporeal epiphanies. Importantly she also reflects on the aestheticisation of suffering in art. According to the author, the writer’s way of depicting and utilising the body aligns with the discourse on corporeality developed within contemporary humanities
